A Note from Blake
Ever since I was a kid, through adolescence, early adulthood, motherhood, work, personal life, whenever, wherever, the single most identifiable part about me has always been my personalit… no? Not my personality? Oh... My hair.
It's been my longest companion in life for 36 years and counting. And, like any relationship, it's healthiest when you take good care of each other. To love my hair well, I've found a system that’s worked wonders for me. A hack of sorts, developed through decades of working with the very best people in the industry, and silly amounts of trial and error.
I live by two simple and fundamental things: Shampoo & Mask, based in Strength (protein) and Nourishment (moisture). Healthy hair is beautiful hair. Styling becomes a fun victory lap once you nail health. I alternate between Strength and Nourishment, wash to wash, or empty bottle to empty bottle. Don’t panic, conditioner isn’t cancelled. Our masks are formulated for every wash use, so think of them as conditioners who love you better.
The styling products we make are based on my essentials to achieve all my favorite styles. They add to your hair without taking much, if anything, from it, which is paramount. And they smell more amazing than words do justice. I like to under promise and over deliver, but in this case, it’s impossible to over-hype these stunning fragrances.
I’ve spent 7 years (I know. It toggles between impressive and wtf took so long) obsessively developing every detail of Blake Brown, which legally makes it my third born child. Thankfully, this one required zero diaper changes. But there were countless sleepless nights and invisible work done by me and so many others.
Why create a line if I already had products that worked? Great question. I wanted something that was more affordable, but had the same salon/red carpet performance...turns out highest quality is most expensive. Who knew?? There's a reason brands tend to have to make compromises, but we didn't stop ‘til we got there (refer back to 7 years in the making). I also wanted scents that felt like fragrances I would actually buy as high-end perfume (check out the fragrance profiles on each product, they are divine).
I wanted it to be cleaner than the products I was using, with great results, so I didn't feel nervous sharing with everyone. I wanted to attempt to show how beautiful maximum sustainability can be. Our products are not only recyclable, but made of 100% previously recycled plastic (aluminum is used too when applicable, we always choose the most conscious option available). I wanted it to be vegan, cruelty-free and formulated without SLS/SLES, silicones, phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes, and mineral oil.
As someone who desperately loves design, I wanted our products to look stunning on your shelf because that's valuable space in your home. It should be beautiful. I was uncompromising on achieving all of those things at once. And now I see why there was nothing out there that hit all of my goals simultaneously. Blake Brown was a beast to build, but I couldn't be more proud of what we created for you.
There’s no way I could’ve done this without an incredible team of people, both internal and our partners outside of Blake Brown. We not only have a team of people who are the best at what they do, but a team of people who are genuinely excited to innovate and create this for you all.
As hokey as this sounds, Blake Brown was born from love. With love. It’s what I always lead with, because if I don’t LOVE it, how can I ask you to invest your time, money and trust into loving it. No way. We have to earn your trust, and I hope we do. We’re not perfect, we never will be. But we’re eternally curious. We are so grateful to be on this journey not only for you, but with you.
